Liverton Village is a lovely place to live – fact, but life
has not always been so idyllic, in 2015 armed with a sense of spirit and determination we channelled our energy into the development
of activities in our Village Hall which would offer residents a warm, safe,
accessible environment and for those who were isolated the opportunity to mix,
meet new friends, coming together to celebrate our community, with pride.
Inspiration
Inspiration came from wanting to offer residents a place to
relax, feel a sense of community which had been denied for many years, and the
notion of something to look forward to. A range of new initiatives was planned,
ranging from a Scarecrow competition, a Pumpkin Festival, and workshops. We
learned how to make bread, a Christmas Wreath and a traditional scarecrow. The
monthly focus was a coffee morning/lunch where a healthy option meal was
offered at a reasonable price. The community embraced this and were notified by
monthly newsletters and a presence in social media.
Benefits
All residents became actively engaged. Voluntarily baking,
providing ingredients money for ingredients, prizes, turning up month after
month to support coffee morning and other activities we had planned. As well as
securing the necessary funds to ensure the hall was safe and warm us thanked
residents with a traditional Christmas dinner and entertainment provided by
committee members. We were able to have our first Christmas tree and lights,
thanks to the local borough and town councils. We now have a feeling of
empowerment, to enrich village life for residents who now know Liverton is a
good place to be.
